Phil Mudd, who served as deputy director to former FBI Director Robert Mueller and is currently a counterterrorism analyst for CNN, predicted on Friday that the U.S. government is going to take Donald Trump down.
Speaking to CNN’s Jake Tapper, Mudd said point blank, “the government is going to kill this guy.” He explained that Trump’s steadfast defense of Russian autocrat President Vladimir Putin has pushed federal officials at “at Langley, Foggy Bottom, CIA and State” past the breaking point and they are simply fed up with his disastrous excuse for a presidency.
“Let me give you one bottom line as a former government official. Government is going to kill this guy,” Mudd said. “He defends Vladimir Putin. There are State Department and CIA officers coming home, and at Langley and Foggy Bottom, CIA and State, they’re saying, ‘This is how you defend us?’ ”
But Mudd wasn’t done. He went on to discuss Trump’s inflammatory ban on transgender soldiers serving in the U.S. military, adding this is just one more reason the government is gunning for him.
“We saw the same thing in his transgender comments. What is the military saying to him on transgender? ‘Show us the policy.’ You know what that means inside government? ‘Ain’t going to happen,’ ” he said.
Mudd then pointed to the recent FBI raid on the home of Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort, noting that this show of force just goes to prove how little trust there actually is between Trump and his own Justice Department.
“What did the Department of Justice say on Paul Manafort? ‘You can say what you want, a judge told us we had cause to search his home early in the morning because we don’t trust the guy who was your campaign manager.’ The government is going to kill this guy because he doesn’t support them,” he concluded.
Tapper confirmed that Mudd was speaking metaphorically and not actually predicting Trump’s assassination. But regardless, things certainly aren’t looking good for Trump.
