A one-year-old Cleveland boy has died after being shot in the face by a three-year-old boy.
The shooting happened Sunday afternoon at a home One adult and several children were in the home at the time of the shooting, WKYC reports.
The child was taken from a two-story house on East 63rd Street to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, police confirmed.
A portion of the street was cordoned off by yellow police tape and a police cruiser was parked in the middle of the street with its lights on.
A crime scene investigation team arrived shortly after 3 p.m. and one of them placed a yellow cone on the house’s front porch, although it remains unclear where the shooting took place.
Detectives continued to interview witnesses inside the house at 3 p.m. Sunday. Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams will speak to reporters about 4:30 p.m., police said.
Neighbors said they didn’t hear gunshots and most said they were unaware of what happened until they saw a fire truck and an ambulance.
A mother lived in the house with three small children, neighbors said.
An EMS captain says the child was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
It’s unclear as to whether police are describing the shooting as ‘accidental’ or not.
A child (again) was allowed access to a loaded weapon and suffered a violent death.
A next door neighbor described the family as “really nice,” and added that “it’s a shame this had to happen.”
