Bannon Calls Comey Firing Biggest Mistake In ‘Modern Political History’ (VIDEO)

If you were caught up in all the coverage of Hurricane Irma on Sunday and missed Charlie Rose’s interview of former White House Chief Strategic Steven Bannon on CBS’s 60 Minutes, you missed another deadly form of human nature wreaking havoc on American shores.

Recently given the boot from the White House, Bannon doled out extraordinary criticisms: calling out top Republicans, West Wing staff, the “pearl-clutching mainstream media,” and special counsel investigators. He even singled out Donald Trump, claiming the firing of former FBI Director James Comey was the worst mistake in modern political history.

According to Bannon, if Trump had not fired the FBI Director in May, Robert Mueller would not have been appointed as special counsel to lead his investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.

“We would not have the Mueller investigation and the breadth that clearly Mr. Mueller is going for,” Bannon said.

That assertion was made in an online-only segment of 60 Minutes that followed the show’s airing. Bannon also made the assertion that Mueller should be fired in that segment, calling the special counsel a “waste of time.”

“It’s a total and complete farce. Russian collusion is a farce,” Bannon claimed.

Bannon even singled out the Roman Catholic Church which opposes Trump’s immigration policy. Bannon implied the Church is against it because they need immigrants to fill their dwindling pews.

“The bishops have been terrible about this,” he said. “You know why? Because unable to really to come to grips with the problems in the church, they need illegal aliens. They need illegal aliens to fill the churches.”

That is disgusting.

Bannon plans to take on all of Trump’s “enemies,” including House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who he accused of “trying to nullify the 2016 election.”

“They do not want Donald Trump’s populist, economic nationalist agenda to be implemented,” Bannon said. “It’s obvious as night follows day.”

When Rose asked if he was bothered by his being painted as the big bad wolf howling in Trump’s ear, Bannon replied that he did not “need the affirmation of the mainstream media.” Neither does Trump, according to Bannon.

“I don’t think he needs The Washington Post, and The New York Times, and CBS News,” he said. “And I don’t believe he thinks that they’re looking out what’s in his best interest, O.K.?”

He also told Rose, “I don’t need to be lectured — by a bunch of — by a bunch of limousine liberals, OK from the Upper East Side of New York and from the Hamptons, OK, about any of this.”

You’ll note that Bannon didn’t go for the usual conservative trope of Hollywood liberals, because, well… He was one. He had a fledgling career as a screenwriter in the movie biz before he was laughed out of town. And I wonder how often he rode in limousines when he was at Goldman Sachs?

Bannon also predicts a deep division within the Republican party. And with his recent White House ouster, he has plans to reclaim his mantle as Trump’s most prominent “wingman outside for the entire time” he is in office. Admitting he was a terrible staffer, he said: “I cannot take the fight to who we have to take the fight to when I’m an adviser to the president as a federal government employee.”

Our purpose is to support Donald Trump,” he said, confirming the bias everyone already knew about. If only Fox “News” would do the same.
