Following a video uploaded on YouTube, a police officer in McKinney, Texas, has been suspended from duties after being filmed aggressively handcuffing, and then pulling a gun on a group of black teens following a local pool party on Friday night.
Officers were called to the a local community pool around 7:15 p.m. local time to respond to a “disturbance involving multiple juveniles at the location, who do not live in the area or have permission to be there, refusing to leave,” the McKinney Police Department said in a post on its Facebook page. Other calls also advised that the teens were “actively fighting,” police said.
“First responding officers encountered a large crowd that refused to comply with police commands. Nine additional units responded to the scene. Officers were eventually able to gain control of the situation,” police said.
Video footage later emerged of one officer aggressively handcuffing and detaining teens who described themselves as bystanders, before wrestling a girl in a bathing suit to the ground, pushing her head down, and drawing his weapon on others who came to assist her.
The officer then straddles over the girl on her back to keep her subdued.

Under the YouTube video, Brandon Brooks writes, “A fight between a mom and a girl broke out and when the cops showed up everyone ran, including the people who didn’t do anything.”
“I think a bunch of white parents were angry that a bunch of black kids who don’t live in the neighborhood were in the pool,” Brooks, who is white, told Buzzfeed.
“Everyone who was getting put on the ground was black, Mexican, Arabic,” Brooks said. “[The cop] didn’t even look at me. It was kind of like I was invisible.”
A fight broke out between adults and youths at the pool party after the adults made racist comments telling the teens to leave the area and return to “Section 8 [public] housing.”
Grace Stone, a white 14-year-old, told Buzzfeed that one of the adults who made the racist comment became violent after objections were raised regarding her offensive remarks.
Stone’s father arrived on scene only to be given no answers from police as to why his 14-year-old daughter was in handcuffs. “All they would say is that she’s not arrested,” he said. “I was fixing to get really irate. I thought they were going to put me in handcuffs. I was shaking. It was very aggravating.”
The Stone family said they plan to file assault charges against the adult woman at the pool who made the racist comments.
Police officers should not aim their weapons at children. Of course they’re going to run if an officer is aggressive. The Tamir Rice shooting did happen.
Who will be setting up the GoFundMe page for the officer who frightened children?
Under the police department’s notice of the incident on its Facebook page, commenters poured in to voice their concerns (disgust) over the officers’ behavior.
