Just days after Dylann Roof opened fire in one of our country’s first African American churches, killing nine people, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) cracked few gun control jokes in Iowa.

Cruz has done this sort of thing before, so this isn’t new.

“You know the great thing about the state of Iowa is, I’m pretty sure you all define gun control the same way we do in Texas — hitting what you aim at,” Cruz said at a town hall meeting Friday in Red Oak, according to the Huffington Post.

That’s exactly what Dylann Roof did with precision when he slaughtered nine people attending Bible study.

While speaking to his audience of about 70 people, Cruz recalled a recent trip to a gun range in New Hampshire that had fully automatic machine guns. “My wife, Heidi, who is a petite, 5’2 California blonde, she was standing at the tripod unloading the full machine gun with a pink baseball cap that said ‘armed and fabulous,'” Cruz said.

During the town hall meeting Friday, Cruz failed to mention the Charleston massacre.

Later on, he told reporters that Democrats were trying to take away Second Amendment rights following the horrific murders.

“It’s sad to see the Democrats take a horrific crime and try to use it as an excuse, not to go after people with serious mental illness or people who are repeat felons or criminals, but instead try to use it as an excuse to take away Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens,” he told reporters.

“I’ll tell you, it’s reminiscent of Rahm Emanuel who said you can never let a good crisis go to waste,” Cruz said.

Cruz was asked why it has been difficult for some Republicans to admit that there was a racial motivation of the incident, and Cruz said he didn’t accept the premise of the question.

“It appears to be racially driven from what it was reported this strange man said, and a racial hate crime is horrific, any hate crime is horrific,” he said. “I don’t think we should be using this tragedy to try and divide people and to try and seek partisan advantage. I think we should be praying for those who lost loved ones in this horrific murder.”

On Saturday at a gun range event, Cruz once more called for defending the Second Amendment.

“There’s a famous saying, praise the Lord and pass the ammunition,” he said.”There is a reason why the Second Amendment is right after the First.”

Cruz then went on to fire off rounds on a semiautomatic .223-caliber Smith and Wesson M&P15 at the shooting range.

Bringing up racism is not seeking to divide the country. Sweeping that glaring problem under the rug does divide this country. As for the felonious 21-year-old with a gun who shot down innocent people, why isn’t Cruz talking about the other culprit – his father who gifted his violently racist son with a firearm?

Of course, many people aren’t addressing that while touting their Second Amendment rights. Ted Cruz reminds me of my Twitter trolls.

The day before Joe Biden buried his son, Beau, Cruz cracked jokes about the vice-president.

As for praising the Lord and passing the ammunition, Roof was welcomed into the church by the very people he shot down, then reloaded 5 times while slaughtering them. The five-year-old who had to play dead as the shooter opened fire won’t think Cruz’s jokes are very funny.
