Last night at the Republican debate Chris Christie dared to say, “…And when the President Of The United States gets out and speaks about it; Does he support police officers? Does he stand up for law enforcement? No he doesn’t.”
I guess Governor Christie was unaware of the speech President Obama gave the previous day:
At the beginning of the speech and throughout his near hour long speech he gave overwhelming support to police officers around the nation. Which is not something new for the President, he has commonly supported police during his Presidency. What President Obama does not support is bad policing, which unfortunately does affect the lives of Americans on a daily basis. Stating during his speech:
Fewer gun safety laws don’t mean more freedom; they mean more fallen officers.
Yet, he has never wavered in his support of officers who do their job well and give their lives to supporting their communities.
After Sheriff Deputy Darren Goforth was gunned down in Texas the President stated the following courtesy of Independent Journal Review:
Targeting police officers is completely unacceptable – an affront to civilized society. As I said in my State of the Union Address, we’ve got to be able to put ourselves in the shoes of the wife who won’t rest until the police officer she married walks through the door at the end of his shift.
That comfort has been taken from Mrs. Goforth. So we must offer her our comfort – and continue to stand up for the safety of police officers wherever they serve.
Chris Christie has somewhat reasonable views on gun reform, stating he wants to protect police in the line of duty. Which should be a concern for every politician; although when he had the opportunity to do something to help police enforcement in New Jersey he simply told them, “I can’t do anything.”
Although, Chris Christie didn’t seem have any problems spending tax payer while New Jersey was going through a budget crisis.
Christie’s most notable spending spree occurred during the 2010 and 2011 NFL football seasons at MetLife Stadium, where the New York’s Giants and Jets play their home games. New Jersey’s governor traditionally enjoys free use of luxury boxes for games and other events at the government-owned venue, but food and beverages cost extra.
On 58 occasions, Christie used a debit card to pay a total of $82,594 to Delaware North Sportservice, which operates the concessions at MetLife. The governor’s office did not provide any receipts, business reasons or names of individuals entertained, but defended the expense.
Christie spent $360,000 from his state allowance during his five years in office. More than 80 percent of that money, or $300,000, was used to buy food, alcohol and desserts, according to a New Jersey Watchdog analysis of records released by the governor’s office.
His issues with his expense account spending are following him today.
It makes for terrible public relations that the Governor will attack the President for not caring about police, but during a budget crisis he found it necessary to waste taxpayer money on the furthering of his waistline.
Way to support the men and women in blue Governor Christie.
