Americans have always been fascinated by the Kennedy dynasty – from Jackie O. to the ties with the mob. If you ask a group of people, “Who killed Kennedy?” they’ll give you answers from Lee Harvey Oswald to the mob. My uncle personally believes Lyndon B. Johnson arranged it. According to Wikipedia, the majority of Americans from the Kennedy era believe there was a conspiracy, and Oswald was not a lone assassin. At least, that is according to whoever edited JFK’s Wikipedia page. This is something the United States House Select Committee on Assassinations agrees on at least.
Since Oswald was killed only two days after JFK’s assassination by night club owner Jack Ruby, it’s easy to assume mob ties were involved. Why? Because we all know night club owners and casino owners were part of the mob. At least, that’s what seems to be the trend in movies such as Casino, Donnie Brasco, etc.
So, do we have another mob tie conspiracy already brewing in our presidential election? Possibly – and it’s not that far-fetched to believe.
The Daily Mail reported the 2016 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has mob ties linking him to mafia boss Fat Tony and Paul Castellano. The fact the guy even has a mafia-esque name makes it so much better.
According to Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter David Clay Johnston, Trump hired mob-ran construction businesses to build Trump Tower and the Trump Plaza apartment in Manhattan. Furthermore, instead of using steel, Trump Tower was built with ready-mix concrete which was overpriced and bought from a company ran by Anthony Salerno (Fat Tony) and Paul Castellano.
What’s the big deal?
“…Trump shelled out ‘inflated’ payments to Tony’s concrete firm to get them to use the quicker more problematic method – while assuring unions would not kick up a fuss.”
Even more delicious? Trump confidante Rob Cohn has also represented Fat Tony.
Johnston who has covered Trump for 27 years has seen multiple connections linking Trump to the mafia, and yes, those links have been found to be more recent than not.
So, what has Trump said?
“Trump has often claimed a faulty memory. In an April 27 phone call to respond to my questions for this story, Trump told me he did not recall many of the events recounted in this article and they ‘were a long time ago.’ He also said that I had ‘sometimes been fair, sometimes not’ in writing about him, adding, ‘if I don’t like what you write, I’ll sue you.'”
Sounds about right. But, will it matter?
Probably not. So far, he’s managed to say Mexicans are rapists and drug dealers, Megyn Kelly was bleeding out of her vagina at the Fox Debate (those are my own words, thank you), Trump University, and didn’t he say the P-word once?
And anyways, who doesn’t enjoy a good mafia story? I’m already salivating at the possible movie scripts. Oh, please dear baby Jesus let Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Vincent Pastore, and Robert Deniro be cast. Damnit. Why did Abe Vigoda have to die this year? And yes, I’m humming The Godfather theme.
So, no. It really won’t matter. Trumpsters are die-hard fans who adore their orange-hued savior. They’ll most likely justify everyone has had mob ties and then tie Obama to Kenyan mobs. Hear that? That was me facepalming. And even if people were outraged, what makes you think the mob isn’t controlling the voting machines anyways?
