GOP Cuts Off The Cash To Roy Moore’s Campaign

Clearly realizing that they need to try and distance themselves from Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has announced they will no longer fundraise for the accused child molester.

In addition to cutting off money to Moore’s campaign in the closing weeks of a special election to succeed former Senator turned Attorney General Jeff Sessions, The Hill also reports:

“The NRSC removed its name from the Alabama 2017 Senate Victory Committee, a joint fundraising committee that also includes the Alabama Republican Party and the Republican National Committee.”

On Thursday, The Washington Post published a story in which a woman alleged that Moore molested her when she was only 14. Three other women also said that Moore made advances to them when they were teenagers. Moore has denied he did anything inappropriate.

But national Republicans have come out to say Moore should drop out of the race. Shortly after the Post’s report, Senators Cory Gardner (R-CO.), the chairman of the NRSC, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, both said Moore should leave the race if the accusations are true.

While it might be tempting to give a round of applause to the NRSC and other members of the GOP who have slammed Moore, keep in mind this is the very same group of morally bankrupt Republicans who embraced and supported a man who bragged about enjoying grabbing women “by the pussy” and at one time was accused of raping numerous underage girls.

Congressional Republicans are concerned that associating with Moore could further damage their already low standing with female voters. Then again, the way they legislate to remove the most basic rights from American women, it’s a wonder any female ever casts a ballot for them.

And while Moore may have been damaged by the revelations of his past actions, there’s a very real chance he will win in December. Then Senate Republicans will have a decision to make: Do they seat this pervert or refuse to allow him entrance into their club?
