Hawaiians Panic After ‘Inbound Ballistic Missile’ Emergency Alert As Trump Prods North Korea

Nothing incites a panic like an emergency alert about an inbound ballistic missile that reads “this is not a drill,” but that’s apparently something that will become a “thing” under President* Trump thanks to his decision to use Twitter to threaten our allies and enemies alike.

Recently, Trump has repeatedly threatened North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, leading to the dictator threatening to launch missiles at the United States — something that made what happened Saturday morning in Hawaii far too real for residents and vacationers.

Hawaiians received a terrifying alert informing them, “BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.”

The message also was blasted out to people’s televisions:

Fortunately, there was no missile attack and everyone is safe despite the words “THIS IS NOT A DRILL” in the text alert ABC News says was “allegedly” sent:

This wasn’t just a simple panic-inducing emergency alert. The Express reports that “Sirens are reportedly also sounding as residents scramble to find cover.” Other reports note that the false alert caused “widespread panic” across the state — and tweets from residents show how terrified their families were:

One resident says she was told by a 911 operator that “someone pushed the wrong buttons.”

Emergency Management officials are now saying the alert was “a drill” despite the alert informing people that it wasn’t.

The threat may not have been real or may have been met with speculation, but thanks to Trump continually prodding North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, the fear was more real than it would have otherwise been.

This is Trump’s America, where living in fear is becoming far too normal.

Oh, Trump? He was golfing while this happened.
