What were the odds in, say, late 2015 that by August of 2017, all the news would be about Nazis in America? Invading parks, killing protesters, and getting shout-outs from the president. Slim to none, that’s what they were. Nobody saw this coming — except maybe the white supremacists who were instrumental in electing Donald Trump. Oh, and the ones on his staff.
Suffice it to say, America at this point has Nazi fatigue. We’re tired of hearing about them on the news. We’re sick of trying to explain what’s going on to our nonagenarian heroes that beat them back in the 40’s. Most of all, we’re angry that there hasn’t been an unequivocal, forceful repudiation of the Alt-Right and their Nazi cohorts from the president of the United States of America.
But it can’t rain all the time, right?
On Saturday, many of the same Nazis who spoke at the rally in Charlottesville that claimed the life of Heather Heyer were scheduled to speak at another gathering, this time in Boston. With news of many, many upcoming rallies being planned by the Alt-Right, it was easy to worry that one would once again turn ugly and violent. Even I issued my own dire warnings early on Saturday about who was coming to Boston. But the Nazi meet-and-greet there turned out peaceful. It was enough that the Mayor — of a city of nearly three-quarters of a million people — extended his gratitude to the anti-fascist protesters that protected the crowd and his city.
And this is how they did it:

So much for “If you ignore them they’ll go away.” Every report on the rally in Boston had counter-protesters outnumbering the Nazis there by ten-to-one.
Now that’s what we like to see. I can’t see myself getting tired of that.
