The world of modern laws, which happens to include women and people of color, once again has to intervene in the affairs of Alabama politics on behalf of equality in justice. U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson has issued a preliminary injunction against the state’s plan to defund Planned Parenthood due to those bogus Center for Medical Progress videos, as covered by Reuters.

Planned Parenthood has withstood the latest wave of momentum the debunked anti-rights-for-women propaganda videos started in motion and is not giving up ground.

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley thought it’d be a good idea to try and terminate the Alabama Medicaid Agency’s agreement with the embattled women’s healthcare provider back in August. Not taking this lying down, Planned Parenthood fought this in the courts, based on the fact that the accusations the videos made are unfounded. Overruled, Governor Bentley.

As in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Utah, it has been ruled by this U.S. District judge that there is no valid reason for Medicaid dollars to be taken from these providers.

As with many issues these days, Republicans at the state level are attacking abortion rights with a multi-pronged approach. Hmmm, it’s almost as if they get together and discuss these things to launch as effective an attack as they can…oh wait, they do. If only the Left was that organized.

Back to the story, in a statement that would have made former Alabama governor and fellow obstinate prick George Wallace proud, Governor Bentley stated, “I am very disappointed, and vehemently disagree with the court’s ruling today.” Well, unfortunately Governor, there is a whole group of people who all work for a thing called the legal system which exists to look into the truth of matters to protect ALL citizens from folks like you who want to push their beliefs on the rest of us in a most un-American fashion. At least that’s the way the legal system is supposed to work, and it appears to have in this case for now.

The powers that be down there in the Dixie State are once again having a very hard time joining the rest of the world in modern times, what with all the gerrymandering, obstructing voter registration in predominantly black districts, imprisonment of pregnant women and of course this maneuver to try and shut down women’s health clinics because ABORTION!

Perhaps the state capitol building needs an exorcism like the one performed on the Pentagon in 1967. Something’s got to give.
