Lawyer For Walmart Truck Driver Whines About Tracy Morgan’s Emmy Speech

When I first saw this story, I had to really double check it thoroughly. For those not familiar with this story. On June 7th 2014, comedian Tracey Morgan was involved in a fatal auto accident.

Morgan was one of seven passengers in the limo bus. One passenger was killed, James McNair was pronounced dead at the scene. Morgan suffered a Broken Leg, ribs, nose, and a traumatic brain injury (TBI)Morgan was also in a coma for several days following the accident.

Kevin Roper was the Walmart truck driver who hit Morgan’s Limo. At the time of the accident police believe Roper was going 65mph in a 45mph zone. Roper may have been fatigued following a long shift, which started with an 800 mile drive from his home in Georgia to a Walmart facility in Delaware.

Investigators from Clayton county Georgia concluded that Roper had been awake a total of 28 hours prior to the accident.

Wal-Mart driver Kevin Roper, 35, of Georgia, was charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto.

Here’s a video report on the accident.

Morgan has managed to rebuild his life. This summer Morgan married his long time girlfriend who proved that she would stick by him “in sickness and in health” many times over. Morgan gave his first television interview recently on NBC’s Today Show.

During this year’s Emmys award show, Morgan made a triumphant return to the music of a huge standing ovation from his friends and colleagues in Hollywood. Morgan was filled with emotion as he approach the stage and that emotion was shared by many in the audience as well. He thanked everyone for their support and gave an a brief speech before presenting an award. One could tell that Morgan was still recovering, however Morgan still displayed flashes of his quick wit and unique sense of humor.

During Morgan’s speech he made reference to his accident saying this,

“God bless all of you and your love and your prayers, positive thoughts over the past 15 months,” the comedian said. “I suffered a dramatic brain injury that put me in a coma for eight days. When I finally regained consciousness, I was ecstatic to learn I wasn’t the one who messed up.”

The final line drew the Ire of Roper’s attorney, David Jay Glassman, Esq.

In a statement Glassman said this,

“Clearly the last thing on the mind of the Middlesex County prosecutor and the New Jersey Federal District Court Judge that permitted Morgan’s civil case to proceed was Mr. Ropers constitutional rights, including the right to have his guilt or innocence decided in a courtroom as opposed to an awards show.”

“While the violations of Mr. Roper’s rights continue unabated, clearly Mr. Morgan’s monetary reward has been realized and his personal as well as professional recovery is well underway,” Glassman continued. “Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about my client, who awaits indictment, while his constitutional rights have been discarded in favor of a punchline.”

I’m sorry folks, I just had to take a deep breath after reading that statement. Wow, I just don’t have the words to express exactly how I feel about the “human being” who made that statement.
