While discussing his new book, “God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy” at the church he attends in Florida, Mike Huckabee deemed New York, Washington, D.C. and Hollywood to be “bubbles” that don’t represent real America, which he said is found in the South and Midwest.
In order to prove his claim of how New Yorkers are ignorant of true American culture and “think we’re crazy,” Huckabee recalled the time he humiliated a New York media elitist Fox News staffer during a debate about guns by suggesting that a pencil is just as much an assault weapon as an AR-15, Right Wing Watch reports.
“I’ll never forget sitting around with my own staff at Fox News, New Yorkers all, and something came up about guns and they were saying about how ‘nobody should ever own an AR-15, there’s just no reason to own an assault weapon,'” he said.
“And I said, ‘Every weapon is an assault weapon, a pencil is an assault weapon if you poke it in someone’s eye.’ Then I really shocked them when I said, ‘AR-15s, I got several of them.’ They were scared to death, I thought they were going to dive under the table, I really did, it was like they were, ‘He’s a psychopath.’”
Huckabee remarked, “You’re just looking at it and you think because you saw it on a Rambo movie that it must be more lethal than anything else, and I said that’s nonsense.”
Opposing Views reports:
The church audience let out some laughter for Huckabee, who didn’t mention that Adam Lanza used a AR-15-style Bushmaster rifle to kill 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012, noted Slate.com.
Meanwhile, gun advocates are upset because the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is considering reclassifying the M855, a popular type of bullet used in the AR-15s, as “armor-piercing ammunition.”
Meanwhile, Americans are openly carrying pencils daily in a threatening manner. Schools are going in lockdown mode daily because of people wildly stabbing at little kids.
Yes, we all remember that time when a student committed mass murder on the campus grounds armed with a #2 pencil.
As for New York not being the ‘real America,’ when we were bombed on 9/11, I recall people leaving politics at the door, walking outside to help others in distress. Churches opened their doors and invited passersby in for coffee. The city was in shock. The entire country supported us because — wait for it — we were bombed on American soil.
