Mike Pence, on a surprise visit to an Air Force unit in Jordan, squarely blamed the Democrats for the shutdown and the possibility that their Feb. 1 paycheck may not materialize. Watch:
Here’s the operative part of what Pence said:
Despite bipartisan support for a budget resolution, a minority in the Senate has decided to play politics with military pay, but you deserve better.
Notice he didn’t mention that his orange-skinned boss was the one who rejected that resolution two Fridays ago?
To make things worse, it was actually Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who decided to kill a proposal by Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) to allow troop pay to continue despite the shutdown. Watch:
Here’s the gist of what McConnell said:
My hope is that we can restore funding for the entire government before this becomes necessary. I’m going to object for tonight, but we’ll discuss again tomorrow. Therefore I object.
There’s no way of telling if Pence knew about McConnell’s rejection, since McConnell’s little hissy fit happened at 1:15 AM today EST, which was 8:15 AM in Jordan, and there’s no telling when Pence made his remarks there. Even if he had known, though, Pence – in all his political sophistication – most likely would have toed the Trump line anyway, which – by the way – is itself a lie.
Why? Trump said in 2013 during a similar shutdown that the president is responsible for it. What changed? Is Trump finally admitting he’s not a real president?
If you don’t buy that, the Democrats were ready to give Trump his stupid wall as long as funding for DACA was included per the bipartisan plan he shot down, but he rejected this too.
Our military members do not get paid anything near what they’re worth, and many live paycheck to paycheck. Add that to getting misinformation from the Vice President, and we have some pissed off Americans with military grade weapons.
