Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is starting down a path of dangerous rhetoric that could easily further increase hostilities between Israel and Palestine. During a speech made yesterday, he made a disturbing claim that was immediately debunked. German Prime Minister Angela Merkel was quick to not absolve German responsibility from the Holocaust.

Here is a quick excerpt of Netanyahu’s fallacious remarks:

Hitler didn’t want to exterminate the Jews at the time, he wanted to expel the Jews. And Haj Amin al-Husseini went to Hitler and said, “If you expel them, they’ll all come here.” “So what should I do with them?” he asked. He said, “Burn them.”

Video of the remarks can be seen in the following video:

The comments are disturbing as it follows a pattern of extreme anti-Palestenian rhetoric by Netanyahu this year. In the final stretch for his re-election bid for Prime Minister he made the following statement, “Whoever moves to establish a Palestinian state or intends to withdraw from territory is simply yielding territory for radical Islamic terrorist attacks against Israel.” He further ramped his rhetoric by promising to continuing building in the occupied West Bank, which is a major source of contention between Israel and Palestine.

Which of course has led to further human loss, early Wednesday morning a 15-year-old Palestenian was shot by Israeli soldiers, which led to a Israeli solider being stabbed in the neck in retaliation. These incidents of violence will only increase if Netanyahu continues his hard right stance on Palestine and encourages anti-Palestenian sentiments.

Many are already calling the ever increasing conflicts in the region the “Third Intifada” with conflicts and tension increasing by the day. Perhaps Netanyhu sees the situation as politically expedient for him. There is little other reason why he would continue to agitate the situation with comments blaming Palestine for the Holocaust.
