New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton asked the police to not show any disrespect toward Mayor Bill de Blaso by turning their backs on him again at the funeral for Detective Wenjian Liu, but they couldn’t help themselves.

Thousands of NYPD cops turned their backs on Mayor de Blasio on Sunday outside a Brooklyn funeral home.

Why did this happen?

Following Eric Garner’s choking death by a police officer, de Blasio dared to mention his son, Dante, who is half-black. De Blasio noted that he and his wife, Chirlane McCray, who is black, “have had to talk to Dante for years about the dangers that he may face.”

Because of that, police officers have been blatantly disrespecting the mayor, even more so following the execution-style shooting of two police officers.

“All of our city is heart-broken today,” de Blasio told mourners at the funeral. “All of this city is feeling the pain, and all of the city wants to lift up the Liu family and the Ramos family.”

Liu’s loved ones attended, with many of them having to travel from China to pay their respects..

“Detective Wenjian Liu was a good man. He walked a path of courage, a path of sacrifice, a path of kindness,” de Blasio said. “This is who he was.”

US Rep. Peter King (R-Long Island) said as he arrived for Liu’s funeral, “I’ve been critical of the mayor, [but] today is not the day for that [protest]. I understand why the police did what they did [at Ramos’s service]. I think the police have made their point. [But] that should be behind us now. I wouldn’t do it myself,” according to the New York Post.

Two plainclothes cops outside the funeral home justified the back-turning protest.

“He [de Blasio] turned his back on us,” one officer said.

“I can’t stand even looking at him,” the other cop said. “He has no friends here.”

However, the people the police officers in question have disrespected the most at the two funerals are the families of the fallen officers. For that, the people of New York should turn their backs on them. If these officers are demanding respect, then they need to earn it. Just my opinion, of course.

De Blasio informing his son of the dangers of walking while black is not a reason to show such disrespect in Stop and Frisk New York City.
