Vice President Mike Pence weighed in on the removal of Confederate monuments in various cities. Pence used tone deaf rhetoric, especially following the violence perpetrated by confederate flag waving Nazis in Charlottesville, Virginia just two weekends ago. The ‘Unite the Right’ hate rally was supposed to be in response to the removal of Confederate Robert E. Lee’s statue.

Pence was asked on ‘Fox & Friends’ Tuesday morning whether he supported local decisions around the country in their efforts to remove Confederate statues in the wake of the violence in Charlottesville, according to The Hill.

Pence said that it’s a “local decision,” but he would prefer to see more monuments constructed than torn down.

“Obviously, I think [whether to remove the monuments] should always be a local decision,” Pence said. “And with regard to the U.S. Capitol, should be state decisions.”

“I’m someone who believes in more monuments, not less monuments,” Pence continued. “What we ought to do is remember our history.

Watch:

Seriously, though, how many monuments does Pence want on each block? On one point we can agree: Pence called for monuments of civil rights heroes and others who have advanced “progress,” in order to display the country’s full history.

“But we ought to celebrate the progress we have made since that history,” Pence said. “I can’t help but think that rather than tearing down monuments, as some are want to do, rather than tearing down monuments that have graced our cities for years, we ought to be building more monuments.”

“We ought to be celebrating the men and women who have helped our nation move towards a more perfect union and tell the whole story of America,” he added.

Yeah, SURE, more statues is the answer. Nine black people were murdered in Charleston, S.C., by a Confederate flag loving white supremacist. Conservatives wanted the Confederate flag to remain in place. Heather Heyer, 32, was murdered by a Confederate monument loving Trump supporter while injuring 19 others during an attack in Charlottesville and Pence offers a tone deaf statement on Fox & Friends.
