Republicans are starting to look and sound almost as guilty as Donald Trump when it comes to the topic of Russian interference in the 2016 election and the ongoing investigation into what happened.
On Friday, California GOP Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, who has been dubbed “Putin’s favorite Congressman” for his numerous ties to Russia, was a guest on CNN and he wasted no time defending former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who was indicted on numerous charges late last year:
“Anyone can be indicted for anything, especially when there’s a special prosecutor.”
That led host Ana Cabrera to ask Rohrabacher if he thought it was acceptable to lie to the FBI the way former Trump foreign policy aide George Papadopoulos and fired National Security Adviser Michael Flynn did. To that, Rohrabacher replied:
“The answer is no, it’s not good to lie to anybody. It’s also not good to interrupt people when they’re trying to make a point when you’re a news person.”
But when Cabrera attempted to apologize and said she meant “no disrespect,” Rohrabacher went into full meltdown mode:
“No disrespect my foot! You don’t respect Trump, you don’t respect people who disagree with you politically!”
Here’s the hypocrisy and irony in what the congressman accused Cabrera of: He, along with Donald Trump, doesn’t have any respect for those who disagree with them on political matters. Trump has made a career of attacking and belittling anyone that dares to call him out for what he says or does.
Also, why is it that when the subject of Russia or the 2016 election happens to come up that Republicans get so damn defensive? If Trump has nothing to hide, as he claims, he should welcome the chance to tell his side of the story so he can be exonerated.
On the other hand, if Trump is guilty as homemade sin, he and his defenders have a lot to fear, because they aren’t gonna be able to bullshit a man as sharp as Robert Mueller.
