Michigan staffers for Marco Rubio and Rand Paul were involved in an incident at and Horn’s Bar on the eve of the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, according to Salon.
John Yob, the chief Michigan strategist for the Rand Paul campaign, wrote in a Facebook post:
Last night I went to a bar on Mackinac Island for the GOP Mackinac Conference. I ran into a guy named Rich Beeson, who frankly I didn’t even know who it was at first because he isn’t relevant in our political world. Anyway, he is Marco Rubio’s national campaign manager. He literally physically assaulted me by punching me in the face. The state police are looking for him. I have it on video, from multiple angles. This will play out in the national media in the next few hours.
Rich Beeson is deputy campaign manager for Marco Rubio.
In another Facebook post, Yob wrote, “I am hereby calling on Marco Rubio to fire Rich Beeson effective immediately.”
We would love to see the videos.
The Detroit Free Press reports in another post:
Brandon Hall, a conservative blogger from Grand Haven, said Friday he witnessed Yob being punched at Horn’s Gaslight Bar, a popular Mackinac Island watering hole.
“As I was sitting at the bar talking to someone at Horn’s in Mackinac Island Thursday night, I witnessed (the man) suddenly, out of nowhere, approach one of Rand Paul’s advisers, John Yob — unprovoked — and try to hit him,” Hall wrote on his West Michigan Politics blog. “(He) missed a full on shot but still struck Yob’s in the face with a powerful blow near the jaw.”
Hall said the Rubio campaign official was at the bar trying to drum up votes for the Florida senator in the presidential straw poll The Detroit News and MIRSnews.com are conducting this weekend at the conference.
The man appeared intoxicated as he “wrangled” Republicans at the bar to vote for Rubio in the straw poll, Hall said.
“It’s probably not a good idea to be a loud-mouth drunk about it, and go sucker punch John Yob,” Hall said. “That’s probably not the best straw poll strategy.”
An officer at the Mackinac Island Police Department would neither confirm nor deny that the incident took place. He went on to say there would be no comment until the chief of police arrives at the station later Friday morning, according to the Detroit Free Press.
In 2010, a supporter of Rand Paul’s literally stomped the head of a female member of the progressive-activist organization MoveOn.org.
This will be an interesting election cycle, don’t you think?
