Reporters In Houston Fire Back At Trump Over Anti-Media Jab During Harvey Visit

Donald Trump just had to demonize the media yesterday during his visit to water-soaked Houston as the death toll climbed to at least 45. The former reality show star gave a brief address to commend the Coast Guard for its hard work, then suggested that media people wouldn’t dare run towards disaster or save people’s lives unless they can get a story out of it.

“I hear the Coast Guard saved…almost 11,000 people by going into winds the media would not go into,” the 71-year-old said while pointing at the cameras. “They will not go into those winds unless it’s a really good story, in which case they will.”

Reporters are responding to Trump’s unfortunate jab at the media.

Raw Story reports:

Huffington Post’s Andy Campbell — who flew with a Coast Guard rescue unit on a mission to save 33 critically ill children — responded, “We were literally on the helicopter with them.”

“Meanwhile, my colleague was on a boat putting down his recorder and rescuing dozens of people,” he said, adding, “My other colleague was helping take supplies to a domestic violence shelter in need.”

“Trump didn’t even talk to the victims, and he parachuted in TWICE,” Cambell added. “You did great bud.”

Bill Bishop, the managing editor of KHOU-TV in Houston, weighed in, too.

“I’ve had with the insults. Let’s see him stand in E. coli water reporting for hours like the media does,” Bishop tweeted on Sunday.

Reporters have been in the thick of it since the beginning, doing their jobs while saving lives alongside the Coast Guard and Trump’s response is to try to diminish their hard work while he strolls in for a photo-op.

  1. Conover, you need to take out “former” in the first paragraph. nmp is still a reality show star, and runs his administration as such.
