In preparation for the live broadcast of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert, God’s gift to political comedy, dressed up in his infamous Caesar Flickman (the annoying announcer from The Hunger Games) outfit and crashed the stage at the Republican National Convention.
While the full skit won’t be shown until later Monday evening, part of it was caught on a cellphone camera. Colbert stands at the podium and announces, “…he (Trump) has formed an alliance with Indiana Governor, Mike Pence” and then Colbert slumps over. After a moment, he comes to and apologizes, “Sorry, I blacked out there for a moment.”
He then raises his hand and proclaims, “So, it is my honor to hereby launch and begin the 2016 Republican National Hungry For Power Games!” He bangs the gavel just as a security guard, apparently lacking any sense of humor, rushes the stage to remove him. It’s obvious he had been speaking before this, but the uploaded video only caught the tail end of the speech.
But the best part comes (so far) as Colbert is being removed. He (presumably) ad-libs, “Look, look, I know I’m not supposed to be up here but, honestly, neither is Donald Trump.” He’s then escorted away to a smattering of applause in the mostly empty arena.
Here’s the raw footage. I can’t wait to see the whole thing!
Colbert also snuck behind the stage and took a picture of himself “At the center of power at the RNC.”
