Suspicious Fire At Planned Parenthood Office Investigated

An investigation is being conducted after a suspicious fire broke out late Wednesday night at a Planned Parenthood in Thousand Oaks, California, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office officials.

Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters responded to an audible alarm at a Planned Parenthood, located at 1200 Hillcrest Dr., at around 11:30 p.m., sheriff’s Capt. Romano Bassi said.

According to KTLA, a fire in the clinic’s lobby triggered its sprinkler system, and the flames and water caused damage to the building.

The extent of the damage is not known at this time.

An investigation is underway after a broken window in the building suggested there was suspicious activity, Bassi said. Officials also said they could smell the odor of fuel in the inside offices.

There are no details as to whether the clinic will open on Thursday.

This particular site has been recently targeted by anti-choice protesters.

On Sept. 5th, a fire broke out at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Washington State which was ruled as arson.

The attacks come during a heated debate nationwide about government funding of Planned Parenthood, and a day after the organization’s president was grilled by Republicans at a congressional hearing about business practices after a highly edited video was released by anti-abortion activists to attack the organization.

The anti-abortion activist leading the attack against Planned Parenthood, Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, was just denied a visa to travel to Australia because it was determined that he “cause significant harm” to their community because he had previously called for the execution of abortion doctors.
