Just after midnight on Monday, Ted Cruz announced his 2016 run for President and included a short video with his tweet. He did not tell his followers that they’re ‘world is on fire’ though.

“I am running for president and I hope to earn your support,” Cruz wrote on Twitter.

“It’s a time for truth, a time to rise to the challenge, just as Americans have always done. I believe in America and her people, and I believe we can stand up and restore our promise,” Cruz says in his video. “It’s going to take a new generation of courageous conservatives to help make America great again, and I’m ready to stand with you to lead the fight.”

The Texas Republican is the first major candidate to throw himself in the 2016 GOP clown car. Amy Kremer, the former head of the Tea Party Express, said that the Republican pool of candidates “will take a quantum leap forward” with Cruz’s announcement, adding that it “will excite the base in a way we haven’t seen in years.”

Uh huh. The fun has already begun. Remember Googling Santorum? That was so much fun. If you go to TedCruz.com, there’s a message which reads, “Support President Obama. Immigration Reform Now.”

Cruz is expected to make his official announcement at Liberty University, the evangelical school Jerry Falwell founded.
