A Michigan teenager has found himself behind bars without bond after being accused of fatally shooting his mother in the back of the head because she told him he couldn’t keep a puppy he brought home just a few weeks earlier.
Andrew David Willson, 19, called 911 at 7:00 a.m. on Friday to inform the authorities that he came home from a drive and found his mother dead in a bedroom, the Lansing State Journal reports. The police found Lisa Marie Willson, 51, with a single gunshot wound to the back of her head.
Investigators determined Willson and his mother were the only people in the home Thursday night and it was just hours earlier that the two argued about keeping a dog the teenager brought home. She told her son that he could bring the dog to his father’s house.
The teen told investigators that in the overnight hours he took a .22 Magnum rifle from a locked cabinet, then went into his mother’s room and shot her in the back of the head while she was asleep.
After killing his mother, he then drove around some back roads for awhile before getting rid of the rifle. Police later recovered the weapon, which had a spent shell casing and a live round in it, according to the Journal.
The teen, who has no prior criminal history, is charged with one count of murder and felony firearm possession. There was no word on how he gained access to the locked gun cabinet.
Meanwhile, an NRA TV host does not like firearms being described as a “weapon.” We’re sure the mother would disagree if she was still alive.
