Lawrence and Elvia Littman, a septuagenarian couple married for 20 years, got into a fight over politics that ended in felony battery charges Wednesday night.
Passionate about the presidential election, Mr. Littman, 78, a registered Republican, and Mrs. Littman, 73, a registered Democrat, were in the bedroom of their Bradenton, Florida, home when the argument spiraled out of control and Mrs. Littman dialed 911.
Responding to her 911 call, sheriff’s deputies interviewed Mrs. Littman, who told then that she and her husband were fighting over the two candidates, when he started calling her “derogatory names, grabbed her wrist and threw her on a chair in the bedroom.” She then said that when she went to a bedroom on the other side of the house to get away from her husband, he “followed her, grabbed her by the arm again and slung her to the ground.” She also told investigators that she “hurt her butt/backside when she hit the ground.”
Later Mr. Littman told the cops that, during the argument, his wife “tried to slap in the face,” so he “shoved her back and she slipped and fell to the ground.”
According to The Smoking Gun, Mr. Littman was arrested for battery on a person over 65. He pleaded not guilty to the felony charge, and he is now free on $500 bond, with orders to stay away from his wife and not to contact her at all before trial.
As we’ve witnessed since Donald Trump entered the presidential primary race in June 2015, his supporters have been anything but peaceful. The incidents of violence throughout his campaign rival any other in modern history, from Trumpites in the rally crowds kicking and throwing sucker punches to his own campaign staff and security officials assaulting press. Here are just a few examples:
Individuals at a Trump rally in Las Vegas in December yelled “Sieg Heil” and “light the motherfucker on fire” toward a protester who was being physically removed by security staffers.
A photographer was slammed to the ground by a Secret Service agent after cursing toward the agent during a dispute over where the photographer was allowed to work from during a Trump rally in Radford, Virginia in February.
Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski “forcibly” grabbed a female reporter, “nearly bringing her down to the ground,” when she attempted to ask a question after a Trump press conference in Jupiter, Florida in March.
The New York Times published an article titled Voices From Trump’s Rallies, Uncensored on Wednesday. Accompanying the piece was a video compiled of unfiltered voices from Trump crowds. It’s scary, very scary. In it you’ll hear rabid Trump fans shouting things I wouldn’t say to my dog; things like “Kill her,” “Trump that bitch!,” “Build a wall — kill them all.”
Scary, very scary. The video is not suitable for work or children, so be careful where you view it.
As far as the Littman’s go, “Politics make strange bedfellows.” And when your politics are Donald Trump’s, violent ones, too.
