The White House Is Actually Trying To Blame Flynn’s Contact With Russia On OBAMA

CNN’s Jim Acosta reported Friday afternoon that, in gathering information for an article later in the day, White House official floated a preposterous idea: That disgraced former General Michael Flynn’s contact with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak was “authorized by the Obama administration.”

If that doesn’t seem laughable enough to you right on its face, take it from former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper:

No, wait. He called it “absurd.” It was another former Obama official:

Clearly, Jim and a couple of ex-feds had a pretty good laugh in his office today.

And honestly, I’m kind of laughing at this point myself, because as the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency under Barack Obama — fired after the briefest tenure by any head of that agency ever held by any person — of course Obama authorized Flynn to talk to whoever he needed to speak to in the confines of his position.

But that position ended in 2014.

The meetings that the “senior WH official,” who is assumed to be Jared Kushner, is referencing here were authorized specifically during the Trump transition. And if the testimony that Flynn gives in exchange for the guilty plea he entered Friday turns out as everyone expects, it will likely be that very “senior WH official” who is implicated as the one who authorized the relevant meetings with Kislyak.

This level of desperation is the culmination of months and months of denials and do-overs, especially by Trump and Kushner. Jared himself has had to amend his previous statements so many times that the current versions of everything he’s said so far in this investigation look nothing like anything he originally said. He failed to disclose meetings and connections on his security clearance forms, lied about the 2106 meeting between himself, Donald Trump Jr, and Kremlin lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, and is now trying to claim that it was Obama behind it all.

It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so transparently pathetic.
