At Sunday’s Detroit Lions game, Rico Lavelle took a knee after singing the national anthem in solidarity with the players who are being blasted by Donald Trump for their silent form of protesting against racial inequality and police brutality.
While at least 500 NFL players have made plans to take a knee today during the anthem, this is the only singer so far to join in, but the day isn’t over yet.

The backlash has been swift after Trump called on NFL owners to fire players who kneel, rather than stand, during the national anthem.
“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b—- off the field right now,'” Trump said while stumping for Luther Strange (R) at a rally in deep red Alabama. “‘He is fired.'”
Football players responded.

Multiple team members from the Ravens and Jaguars took to their knees during the anthem while the remaining players stood behind them linking arms in solidarity.
The former reality show star is being blasted across the board, even by one of his supporters, a former NFL coach who said he was “appalled” and “pissed off” over his president’s attack on black athletes.
Many members of New Orleans Saints remained seated during the anthem. Brandon Coleman raised his fist in the air after scoring a touchdown.
Trump ranted this morning in his Twitter timeline about the NFL’s ratings while he ignored his own poll numbers. Trump has the lowest approval ratings of any President in the history of polling and it’s only going to get worse given that his administration is plagued with scandals. But Trump wants NFL players fired. We think he should resign.
