Trump Gets Schooled For Blaming Canceled Trip To London On Obama

Donald Trump confirmed on Twitter reports that he canceled his plans to open the new U.S. embassy in London next month, but the reason the former reality show star gave is a straight up lie. It’s either a lie or he’s profoundly stupid.

“Reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for “peanuts,” only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars,” he tweeted. “Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!”

Twitter users noticed Trump’s fake news tweet. Trump just didn’t want to be met by massive protests in a country where he’s wildly unpopular.

The decision to move the embassy from London’s Grosvenor Square took place during President George W. Bush’s time in office, not former President Barack Obama’s. The construction on the new site did begin in November of 2013, and the reasons for the high costs are complicated.

At the time, officials said that it would have been impossible to retrofit the aging concrete building with the security measures needed so Bush’s decision was appropriate.

The embassy’s site notes that the project was funded entirely by the proceeds of the sale of other U.S. Government properties in London, not through appropriated funds, and the construction was at no cost to taxpayers.

Trump is concerned that Obama will be invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding and he will not be extended an invitation. He also feels that he won’t be well received and he won’t be able to meet the Queen. SAD!
