Two television journalists in Bridgewater, Virginia were fatally shot on the air on Wednesday morning during a live television interview at 6:45 a.m.

DBJ7 photographer Adam Ward, 27, and WDBJ7 reporter Alison Parker, 24, were shot dead during the live broadcast.

Screams could be heard during the taping.

At the moment of the shooting, Parker and Ward were interviewing Vicki Gardner, the local Chamber of Commerce Head, according to Business Insider.

During the attack, Gardner was shot in the back and ended up in surgery.

Pictures of the gunman are circulating on Twitter.

There are no words for this.

Update: The shooter has been identified.


Deputies from Franklin County and Bedford County are on scene. The gunman has not been apprehended yet.

WDBJ7 reports that Adam Ward graduated from Salem High School and Virginia Tech.

Alison Parker grew up in Martinsville and attended Patrick Henry Community College and James Madison University.



I heard on the car radio this morning someone from the station breaking down in tears, sobbing, as he told of what good people Adam and Alison were. He said Alison was reporting on ‘happy’ news and was not in a crime infested area when she was gunned down along with her colleague.

We’ve just seen two people executed live on the air in America.

Update: According to the police scanner, the shooter’s car was found at the Roanoke airport.

He’s wearing black pants, a blue shirt and possibly wearing ballistic vest.

He’s armed with a handgun in the Roanoke area.
