‘Access Hollywood,” purveyor of the infamous “p*ssy grabbing” tape, has just asserted the authenticity of what Trump is now claiming never happened, despite his apology for it a year ago.

Watch:

Even Sarah Huckabee Sanders was hard pressed to defend her boss:

Here’s a transcript of the exchange:

REPORTER:

Sarah, does the presIdent still accept the authenticity of the ‘Access Holiday’ tape that he apologized for during the campaign?

SANDERS:

Look, the president addressed this, this was litigated and certainly answered during the election by the overwhelming support for the president and the fact that he’s sitting here in the Oval Office today. He’s made his position on that clear at that time, as have the American people and his [sic] support of him.

REPORTER:

But he apologized for it, which would seem to acknowledge its authenticity, and that position ] hasn’t changed?

SANDERS:

No, like I just said, the president hasn’t changed his position. I think if anything that the president questions is the media’s reporting on that accuracy.

So, what exactly is Trump standing by? His apology a year ago, or his three recent statements that question the authenticity of the tape? More importantly, why has this become an issue? The New York Times has a theory: Trump is positioning himself to be a credible supporter of Roy Moore, the accused pedophile who’s going to bring down the Republican party single-handedly.

Either way, Trump once again is showing his tenuous and flexible grasp on reality. He needs to step down, don a designer straitjacket, and get professional help.
