Fanatical anti-choicer David Daleiden and his partner in crime, Sandra Merritt, were indicated in Texas on Thursday related to charges that they created fake government ID and attempted to buy fetal tissue during their failed sting operation against Planned Parenthood. They created a sham company called The Center for Medical Progress which they used as a means to get private meetings with Planned Parenthood staff in the hopes of videotaping them surreptitiously to catch them breaking a law. Welp, that never happened. Sorry, anti-choice nuts.
Planned Parenthood was investigated in 12 states and cleared of all charges in each state. House Republicans have tried to defund Planned Parenthood numerous times and have failed every single time. The organization has been found to be in complete compliance with all federal and state laws regarding fetal tissue and all medical procedures offered at their facilities.
Texas pushed on with its investigation regardless. And whoa, did the investigation take a surprising turn. The irony of the charges stems from the fact that the Grand Jury was initially assembled to investigate whether Planned Parenthood violated any laws and instead turned the tables 180 degrees and indicted the video makers themselves. The conspiracy theorists were quick to attack the DA’s office and accuse them of being pro-choice, when ironically the District Attorney assigned to the case, Devon Anderson, is a Republican who was appointed by former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
Raw Story reports that Daleiden turned himself in to authorities on Thursday and refused a plea deal which would have avoided a trial and removed the potential of jail time. Clearly, this idiot has learned nothing. He is on video and there is actual proof in the form of a fake state ID that he made himself. His position is that what he did was justified because he was acting as a “journalist” or something. Can a real journalist explain to him that searching out a story does not mean you can break the laws. It doesn’t work like that.
Daleidan’s attorney tried in to compare his “journalistic tactics” to those employed by reputable news outlets such as CBS’ 60 Minutes. Uh, I am pretty sure that they don’t break the law and then try to justify it afterwards.
“If we’re going to be prosecuting undercover journalists, we are sending ourselves down a very, very dark path. This is fully in the tradition, a long storied tradition, of undercover journalism.”
So now we are calling Daleidan a “journalist”? I prefer to call him what he is – an anti-choice, anti-woman, pathological lying, sociopath who is on a one man mission to take down a company working completely within all federal and state laws.
Daleidan told supporters outside the courthouse:
“I think we all know that every day that goes by that the Texas authorities do not prosecute Planned Parenthood for their illegal trade in baby parts, they are sending a message to the entire country. The state of Texas right now is open for business in baby body parts.”
Uh, you were indicted by a conservative District Attorney. Texas assembled a Grand Jury and even they couldn’t find anything to indict Planned Parenthood on. Unfortunately, they did find things to indict you and your criminal co-conspirator on. Whoops. If you can’t even get the people on your side to agree with you, you must have broken a law…or two.
Please watch this lovely video of his statements as he leaves the courthouse, per Raw Story. Daleiden’s statement begins at the 16 minute mark.
The most ludicrous part is when this asshat actually demands an apology from the government. Yes, he broke multiple laws and single handedly enticed 12 states to conduct ridiculously expensive investigations into Planned Parenthood’s practices, but he is the one that deserves an apology.
“Amen!” someone in the crowd shouted.
The chances of you getting an apology are approximately zero. The chances of you being found guilty and serving time being bars is almost 100%. I prefer my odds.
