WATCH: Asked About Trumpcare, Mike Pence Fabricated A Thomas Jefferson ‘Quote’

Apparently Mike Pence has been hanging around Donald Trump way too much recently, because he’s started emulating the president in a very negative way: Lying.

Pence was a guest on the Donald’s favorite mindless morning show, Fox & Friends,  Thursday morning when the discussion turned to the Graham-Cassidy health care bill, which would result in at least 32 million Americans losing their health insurance. Pence was asked by co-host Ainsley Earhardt:

“Folks like Jimmy Kimmel, they’re worried about the preexisting condition thing, ’cause this will be up to the governors to decide how the money is dispersed, who gets coverage. Can you guarantee that these governors will make sure that preexisting conditions are covered?”

Rather than give an actual response to the question, Pence decided he’d reach into his big bag of BS and pull out a fake quote from Thomas Jefferson, responding:

“Thomas Jefferson said, ‘Government that governs least, governs best.’ I mean the question that people ought to ask is, who do you think will be more responsible to the health care needs in your community? Your governor, your state legislature, or a congressman and a president in a far-off nation’s capital. I mean, this is the concept of federalism upon which our constitution was framed.”

The sound that was heard in the studio right after those words left Pence’s lyin’ lips was Thomas Jefferson spinning in his grave at Monticello because he never said any such thing. In fact, that line is a quote from Henry David Thoreau’s Civil Disobedience.

Since he was already fully committed to telling big honking lies, Pence then added this:

“This legislation — Graham-Cassidy — as its authors have said, contains all the same protections for preexisting conditions as the president indicated. At the end of the day, we have to recognize that Obamacare has failed, [as] much as its defenders want to deny the facts.”

Yeah, as if Mike Pence or any of the Congressional Republicans would know a fact if it walked up to them, pissed on their leg and bit them square on the ass.
