Quitter Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) has just two weeks left before he leaves Congress, and has already begun to attempt to distance himself from the Trump administration. In an interview over the weekend, Chaffetz claimed frustration with the current administration as part of his reasoning for leaving office in the middle of his term. The GOP representative and chairman of the House Oversight Committee had formerly stated that he was leaving his position so that he could spend more time with his family. In a letter to his constituents in May announcing his resignation, Chaffetz stated,
As you know, after careful consideration and long discussion with my wife, Julie, we agree the time has come for us to move on from this part of our life… as I celebrated my 50th birthday in March, the reality of spending more than 1,500 nights away from my family over eight years hit me harder than it had before.
Chaffetz, who looked sweaty and ill throughout the interview, began by stating that although he had high hopes when Trump took office, he did not see much difference between the Trump and Obama administrations. He went on to express his frustration with Trump and with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, stating,
In many ways, it’s almost worse because we’re getting nothing, and that’s terribly frustrating and, with all due respect, the attorney general has not changed at all. I find him to be worse than what I saw with Loretta Lynch in terms of releasing documents and making things available. I just, that’s my experience, and that’s not what I expected.
Representative Chaffetz’ defection is too little too late..
Chaffetz’ sudden burst of bravery just prior to leaving was not fooling anyone, with many on social media calling him out on his futile attempts to distance himself from what increasingly appears to be a losing administration.
If Jason Chaffetz was really a “brave leader,” he would have slammed Trump, then stayed to fight to get him out. https://t.co/LR1CEns2U6

Jason Chaffetz is a profile in courage…now that it’s safe for the cowardly wuss to speak his mind, on his way out. https://t.co/jRgm3h0VWA

Sorry, Mr. Chaffetz, but you waited too long to denounce your party. The people of Utah and the nation will not so easily forget your former loyalty and eagerness to endorse the current Republican sh*t show.
