WATCH: Fox News Anchor Walks Back Claim Of Hillary Clinton’s ‘Likely’ Indictment

Fox News’ Bret Baier revealed some news this week about Hillary Clinton’s ‘likely indictment’ which then exploded across the Internet. #HillaryIndictment was trending on Twitter. Right wing sites covered it and conservatives really thought they had something. Hillary was going down because Baier used two unnamed sources and claimed to have some knowledge of what investigations were taking place.

Baier said that FBI investigations relating to Hillary Clinton will “continue to likely an indictment.”

On Thursday’s edition of Fox’s Happening Now, Baier described his comments as “inartful,” acknowledging that “that’s not the process.”

“That’s not how you do it. You have to have a prosecutor. If they don’t move forward with a prosecutor with the DOJ, there would be, I’m told, a very public call for an independent prosecutor to move forward,” he continued.

“There is confidence in the evidence, but for me to phrase it like I did, of course that got picked up everywhere, but the process is different than that,” Baier added.

There’s something going on with the FBI, as Media Matters notes:

The Daily Beast has reported on a pipeline between conservative FBI agents (both active and retired) — angered by FBI Director James Comey’s conclusion in July that there was insufficient evidence to recommend any indictment in the review of Clinton’s use of private email as secretary of state — and Fox News. According to The Daily Beast, “Trump supporters with strong ties to the agency kept talking about surprises and leaks to come — and come they did.

The FBI is even investigating itself over tweets one of the agency’s official accounts sent out seemingly to influence the upcoming presidential election.

Kurt Eichenwald explained it best on Twitter. “Bush investigated in 96. Cleared. Imagine if FBI came out in 2000, just be4 election, said “new evidence, dont know what it means.” Horrible,” he tweeted.

Republicans have already talked about impeaching Clinton and she’s not in office – yet. Even Darrell Issa (R) said,
“OK, I’m gonna say, be the adult in the room and say ‘calm down, back off, it’s not gonna happen.'” Issa said that. Darrell. Fucking. Issa.
