Frazier Glenn Miller, 73, of Aurora, Mo., who was charged in the fatal shootings at two Jewish community sites was in Johnson County court Friday morning.
Cross, the founder of a group called the White Patriot Party, gave a Nazi salute as he was wheeled into court. He later made an anti-Semitic statement to spectators and media members, KCTV reports.
A lead attorney for Cross requested to be removed from the case due to, what he termed as “a complete breakdown” in communication with the defendant. The judge agreed to the request.
The judge went on to approve Cross’ request that the car he used in the shooting be returned to his wife.
Cross is accused of killing William Corporon and his grandson, Reat Underwood, as they arrived for a singing competition at the Jewish Community Center.
He walked up to the nearby Village Shalom where he asked a man outside the retirement community if he was Jewish. When Terri LaManno said yes, the suspect shot the individual, according to officials.
Cross is a white supremacist. The SPLC has an account of his activities documented as well.
Cross is a former “grand dragon” of the Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, which he founded and ran in the 1980s before being sued by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for operating an illegal paramilitary organization and using intimidation tactics against African Americans.
If the hate doesn’t kill him, prison will.
