U.S. Park Police and Metropolitan Police Department officers are responding to Navy Yard for a report of active shooter on the scene. A lockdown is in place. According to the livefeed, Navy Security reports that there are two active shooters.
Alarms are sounding, according to reports. Buildings are being evacuated.
According to ABC, South Capitol St SE from M to I St SE/11th St SE from M St to Virginia Ave SE are closed due to the large police response.
At this time, no casualties have been reported. Employees have been told to shelter in place.
Secret Service, Park Police and Homeland Security have secured the perimeter. Authorities are evacuating floor-by-floor.
The Navy Yard, a military installation in the nation’s capital, is the site of a 2013 shooting in which a gunman killed 12 people.
We will update you as more news comes in. At this time, no other details have been reported.
Reports are coming in that there may not be a shooter. An employee did as she was trained to do and reported possible gunfire, although, she was not sure at the time whether or not it was actually gunfire. No one actually witnessed the alleged shooter.
