Donald Trump spoke to a crowd in Indiana Wednesday to offer a vague synopsis of his “historic tax relief” proposal that gives “the largest tax cut in our history.”
Gary Cohn, a Goldman Sachs recruit, now serving as Trump’s White House economic adviser, spoke with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos today and could not guarantee that taxes for the middle class wouldn’t go up under the tax plan.
“There’s an exception to every rule,” Cohn told Stephanopoulos in an interview on “Good Morning America.”
“I can’t guarantee anything,” said Cohn. “You can always find a unique family somewhere.”
He went on to say that Trump’s plan is “purely aimed at middle-class families.” But Cohn admitted that “it depends which state you live in.”
Cohn insisted that the wealthy will not benefit under the plan but when asked whether Trump would get a tax cut, Cohn would not say for sure.
“Can you guarantee that President Trump won’t get a tax cut under this plan?” Stephanopolous asked.
“When we looked at the tax plan and we look at what it does for Americans, we are very confident that Americans are getting a great deal here,” he replied. “We’ve also said that wealthy Americans are not getting a tax cut.”
As ABC pointed out, Cohn wouldn’t say for sure if Trump would get a tax break.

“That’s not the evidence that’s out there so far,” the ABC anchor shot back.
With a closer look, it’s exactly what most of us expected it to be. Trump and his Goldman Sachs alumni-filled White House would benefit greatly from his plan. In fact, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates that the top 1 percent would get half of the tax cuts under Trump’s plan. By eliminating the estate tax, the plan would benefit Trump, his family, and other wealthy Americans. So, now we know why Trump was so vague during his short speech.
Trump denied that any of the planned high-end tax cuts would benefit him. “It’s not good for me, believe me,” he said.
I’ll just leave this here.
